"Remote Area Applied" What does this mean?
From time to time, you may notice that some services state "Remote Area Applied" when you obtain a quote on our website. This message is there to let you know that your chosen delivery destination is classified as remote by that particular carrier and that an extra charge has been applied. Providing that the correct postal codes are provided when quoting, our website will always let you know if a remote area surcharge has been applied.
What is a remote area surcharge?
A remote area surcharge is an additional charge applied by couriers in order to offset the additional costs incurred when delivering to remote locations. Locations most commonly classified as remote include; offshore islands, mountainous regions such as ski resorts or sparsely populated areas such as the Scottish highlands.
Providing that you quote using full postal codes, our website will calculate the price of your delivery to include a remote area surcharge if it applies.
I don’t really consider my chosen delivery address to be remote.
If your delivery address is not particularly remote in nature, you may find that the charge is applied because the destination requires a driver to travel beyond their usual routes or because the area in question simply takes a long time to commute to and from. Manhattan Island in New York for example is certainly not a desolate region but commuting to, from and around the island by road has a higher impact on time and fuel resource.
