Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
Definition of Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS)
A Material Safety Data Sheet contains information regarding the physical, explosive, radioactive and chemical characteristics of hazardous materials in a shipment
It is often supplied along with a UN Number by the exporter (via the manufacturer) and is only required when transporting hazardous materials.
Why are Material Safety Data Sheets important?
Material Safety Data Sheets are important as they are used to calculate any further shipping costs that can be attributed to the sending of hazardous materials.
An MSDS is also to make sure that the vessel's safety restrictions are not exceeded and that the right safety precautions are performed when handling the goods.
