Definition of Merchandise Processing Fee


The Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF) is a fee imposed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) on most imported goods entering the United States. 

It’s applied to cover the administrative costs associated with processing, inspecting, and clearing goods through customs. 

For formal entries (shipments valued over $2,500), the fee is calculated as 0.3464% of the merchandise’s value, subject to a minimum and maximum fee. For informal entries, a flat rate is applied.
